Joy Cometh in the Morning

This evening, as I am planting morning glory seeds around the bases of the bottle trees, I am taken back to September, when I first started working out.

At 225+ lbs., working out wasn’t easy. Heck, nothing was easy, really. I was starting to get up at 4:30 a.m. to get to the gym by 5 a.m., and I wasn’t missing a day. When I left, it was dark, and there wasn’t much to see. If there had been, I was still half asleep and would’ve missed it…

When I came back around 7 a.m., I was hot, sweaty and some days didn’t know if I could walk from the car to the house, but I did, and I was always so tickled to be greeted by the morning glories. It sounds a little hokey, but there were days that those morning glories really got me through the morning.

And now, as I plant this season’s morning glories some eight months later, so much has changed. For one, I’m 60 lbs. lighter. And what was nearly impossible for me to do at the gym six months ago is part of my routine. I still drag myself out the door at dark o’clock, but getting back is a little easier.

I can’t wait to see those morning glories again, but this time, I’ll see them a little differently. Those hand-sized, brightly colored blooms will now also be a symbol of my success, newly found confidence, and even strength, both physical and mental.

In closing,  I’m reminder of Psalm 30: 5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
