June 2016 Non-Scale Victories

  1. Took a rest day from the gym and was okay with it.
  2. Packed a healthy lunch for the DHEC workshop.
  3. Resisted buying a McDonald’s cone and peanut butter crackers from the vending machine. Was REALLY HUNGRY, but drank water and waited for it to pass.
  4. Prepared notes for a difficult phone conversation so I wouldn’t get flustered or caught off guard.
  5. Sat “criss-cross-applesauce MP style” for the first time since the aneurysm. Getting more flexible, finally.
  6. Co-worker asked if I’d lost weight. (That’s kinda scale-related, I know, but because I haven’t weighed lately, I didn’t know. So I’m counting it anyway!)
  7. Survived a night without Sister. It wasn’t much fun, but I did fine. No reason not to, of course, but it’s nice to know I can stay alone with no problems. (It wasn’t that long ago that I had to have someone with me at all times!)
  8. Did dairy case acrobatics tonight to reach the creamer in the back. I thought twice before doing it because of my balance, but did fine. Balance is getting better.
  9. Avoided buying “shiny things I didn’t really need” today.
  10. Gave Beth a pedicure at the hospital, including a foot rub.
  11. Eight straight weeks at the gym.
  12. Tried a new crock pot recipe: Hawaiian BBQ Pulled Chicken. And now have five meals ready for the weeks ahead.
  13. Able to water the dogs outside without falling and/or struggling.
  14. Made myself do a “Table Topic” at Toastmasters today to get some voice time in. (It was down to two, and it would’ve been easy not to do one.)
  15. Have been to the gym nine weeks straight.
  16. Started using a new app to record my meals: Lifesum. A nice change from MyFitnessPal. Coaches me a little more, and doesn’t have that annoying “If every day is like today, you’ll weight XXX in five weeks.” (That totally de-motivates me!)
  17. Requested a fruit plate for lunch at the Clean Energy Conference.
  18. Spent the morning in bed, relaxing with the cats, doing things I wanted to do.
  19. Walked down to the street to see the evening primroses open. Unbelievably cool and beautiful. Also ran into friends there.
  20. Did tonight’s treadmill with increased intensity: a 1% incline, which Jarrett said is more like walking outside. No stridor and even got a little sweaty.
  21. Have been at the gym ten weeks in a row!
  22. Went to my doctor’s appointment “all natural.”
  23. Splurged a little tonight, but reigned it in before I went through too much.
  24. Made it to work by 7:45 a.m. for a special breakfast.
  25. Got 10 hours of sleep after a week of barely getting an average of seven.
  26. Got an all-time high score in Lumosity’s Train of Thought. (I remember how difficult that game was for me during rehab.)
  27. Ate within my carb guidelines today for the first time in weeks. (Maybe ever!)
  28. New post-aneurysm record: 21 minutes at 1% incline
  29. 26 minutes!
  30. Gym 11 weeks in a row.
