If you’re like most Americans, you drink at least two sweetened beverages a day. In addition to leading to weight gain, this may strain your heart by tightening blood vessels. To reduce your risk for cardiovascular problems, cut out at least 12 oz. (one can) of soda or fruit drinks, like lemonade or punch, every day. In one to three months, you could see your blood pressure drop, according to research from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Keep it up for a year, and you may also lose anywhere from two to 15 lbs., depending on your metabolism.
