Update: Added Sugar Challenge

I’m a bit late checking in on the added sugar challenge. It wasn’t too hard. It turns out that there aren’t a lot of hidden added sugars in the food I eat. The ones that have been killing me are the ones that aren’t hidden: cookies, candies and ice cream.

I decided to use Lent to reduce those sweets. On Fat Tuesday (2/25), I had an apple pancake from the Original Pancake House for dinner and some ice cream before bed. Since then, I haven’t had any ice cream and have limited candies and cookies.

One source of hidden added sugar I was surprised to find was in the vitamin gummies that I take: calcium+vitamin d, healthy hair/nails/skin and melatonin. Just because they’re supplements doesn’t mean they don’t have sugar, but they sure are easier to take than those big pills.

It’s another month until Easter, so I’m going to try to stick with the no ice cream thing through then. Hopefully it will get me out of the habit of eating it so much.

Gummy vitamins or Easter candy? Either way, it’s added sugar.
