Need Some Positive Reinforcement

As I prepare for tomorrow’s meeting with Traci the Nutritionist, I know this week has been a let down. I’ve eaten well EXCEPT I can’t seem to get those vegetables in! I’ve given it a decent shot, but I still gag a little when I eat a carrot. I’ve gotten in more tomatoes and peas, but as for those leafy greens, I’m just not there yet. Instead of reliving the pity party I’ve had tonight, I want to recall some of the positive changes that I HAVE made since September 8. I’ve:

  1. Worked out for 30 minutes every day except one, the day of the conference
  2. Given up fast food cold turkey
  3. Not had a soda – diet or regular – since September 1
  4. Tried a lot of vegetables
  5. Starting cooking at home and taking my lunch into work
  6. Lost at least seven lbs. (I’m not going to weigh for the record until October 8)
  7. Given up processed foods and sugar

I know that “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” but I sure wish I could get it together with these veggies! Tomorrow, I think I’ll try the recipe for roasted broccoli that Jim Litzinger gave me. I’m going to keep trying with the hopes that eventually something will stick!

  1. Wow! What a great job you're doing.

Mary Pat, here's how I give myself a boost. Don't think about what you've given up, but what you've gained. Exercising outdoors? Added some Vitamin D to your body, and met some new neighbors! And think of all the money you've saved by cooking at home, taking your lunch to work, and giving up fast food!

  2. I am SO PROUD of you! You have accomplished so much in such a short time!!! I am with you–I don't eat as many veggies as I should, but unlike you, I like most veggies. Oh well. Give it time…..KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  3. Don't give up, Mary Pat. Seven pounds is great for the brief time you've been on this. Slower, sensible loss is more apt to be permanent.
