2012: The Year of Organization?

I’m not much on making resolutions – well, maybe a little – but getting organized in 2012 is definitely on the top of my list!

That’s why I’m so excited about Organize Now, A Week by Week Guide to Simplify Your Space and Your Life. It’s a 52-week plan to get organized, and what better week to start that the first week of the new year!

Week One’s charge is to “Organize Your Mind,” and I’ve started a few days early. I’ll be working on two main things this week, both of which may be a challenge.

  1. Getting at least seven hours of sleep

The problem with sleep? I workout in the morning. Very early in the morning. On the days I strength train, I get up at 4:34 a.m.; on cardio only days, I can sleep as late as 6 a.m. Early mornings are a great time to work out because aside from just not getting up, there aren’t a lot of distractions. Very few work events, parties, presentations or headaches occur before 7 a.m.

One problem with getting up early:  you have to go to bed early. And going to bed early is a problem for many reasons, including the fact that I live with an affirmed night owl. I try to be IN bed by 8:30 p.m. and asleep by 9:30 p.m., but that’s not always doable. This will be a challenge, for sure.

  2. Limiting the amount of TV I watch

Limiting TV? Probably easier done than said. I rarely just sit down to watch TV; I usually have it on for background noise or company. Still, I know that it distracts me.

As a start, I’m going to give up morning TV after 7 a.m. on weekdays. Before 7 a.m. isn’t a problem. I usually tune in to get the weather and a look at early headlines, and I always “watch” on the elliptical at the gym. But after 7 a.m., it becomes a distraction. And a lot of times, an irritation.

I’d appreciate any tips you might have on getting more sleep and/or limiting TV.  I’d also love to hear about your resolutions, too!

Happy New Year’s!

  1. Getting enough sleep is always a problem for me. I don’t workout early, but I’m usually up late reading or writing. Limiting TV would be even harder for me. There are only three shows I watch regularly, and I DVR those, but I am constantly distracted by TV in the evenings when I should be getting ready for the next day. I may try turning off the TV and turning on music to avoid the distraction, but still have the background noise. I don’t have a resolution, but I am going to work diligently toward eating healthier. I’m making Quinoa now for breakfast tomorrow. That’s why I’m on your blog, looking for a recipie 🙂
